A have a serious passion for photography. I’ve been a photographer literally since I could hold a camera. I was the one who took so many pictures as a child my mom was most likely excited about digital cameras because she wouldn’t have to print every picture. I love the essence of photography and being able to capture a moment in time. I love sharing that passion with others. It makes me so happy and excited when I get to upload photos from a session and browse through them to pick my favorites. (I usually upload photos RIGHT after a session because I’m that excited about it).
But, photography hasn’t been my only passion. That’s where DANCE comes in. I’ve been a dancer since I was three years old (That’s 27 years… yup, I’m the big 3-0). I have been dancing, teaching dance, choreographing routines, and living dance for many, many years. I’ve had this vision of capturing dance movement in time and seeing the extensions, leaps, jumps, toe shoes, and flexibility from a dancer in front of my lens ever since I got my DSLR. I would take my camera to all our competitions and get group shots and individuals all the time, but that never really filled this vision I’ve had. This year I’m not teaching dance and I truly miss it, so much so that it was time make that vision come to life.
I got in touch with Talia (a former Dance student of mine) and asked if she’d model for me. She’s an AMAZINGLY talented young lady. She’s a freshmen this year. Yup, that’s right a FRESHMEN! She’s got some serious abilities on the dance floor, being flexible is just one of them. She’s got this keen sense of picking up a routine, fitting the style, and learning tricks like they are as easy as walking. Hands down she is one dancer I truly look up to and am proud of all the accomplishments she’s made. I have all faith that she will go far with her dance career if she wants to. I was so thrilled to finally put this session into motion and was ecstatic when she said yes. Originally, I had wanted to do this outside in the snow… but with the rain recently I opted for the Old Logan Coach Building and I think it fits the style I was going for to a T. I couldn’t have planned it any better.
Thanks Talia, you were awesome!
Warning – This may be a bit of a picture overload 🙂 I couldn’t decide which ones I liked the best!
Look how much height she gets in her leaps! Sweet.
