The Tuesday Ten | Favorite Family Games, Vol. 2

The Tuesday Ten

If you’ve followed my
Tuesday Ten’s for at least a year you may recall a super fun post last January
about my Favorite
Family Games
. It included games like Cover your Assets, Ticket to Ride and
Settlers of Catan. This post is a follow up of additional FUN FAMILY Games
we’ve learned about or played since that post. We love family games, and the
holidays last month reminded of just that.
1.  SKULL KING
We got this for my
Dad for Christmas. It’s from the same makers as Cover your Assets. Totally fun,
pretty easy and quick to learn! There are 10 rounds and you bet on how many
“tricks” you’ll take. Seriously fun and you make make or break other peoples
bets! It’s our new favorite and it’s cheap! You can pick it up locally for about $10 or on amazon for around $12. TOTALLY worth the small investment!

2. PIT
An easy game for
teenage kids to join in. You each play with a hand of cards and continue trying
to trade with other players until you have all of the same cards. Meanwhile
trying to steer clear of the Bear and either winning with the Bull or avoiding
it just in case someone else wins. Check it out!

3.AMONIA
This is a new game! I gave it to Andy for Christmas. Though we haven’t played it yet it looks awesome and I’ve heard so much fun things about it. Here’s a review from boardgamegeek.com

Anomia plays off the fact that our minds are positively brimming with all
sorts of random information: things to eat, pop songs, websites, etc… Sure,
under normal circumstances, it’s easy to give an example of a frozen food or a
dog breed, but you’ll find that your brain works a little differently under
pressure!
To play,
draw and reveal a card from the center pile. Does the symbol on your card match
one on another player’s card? If so, you must quickly face-off with the other
player by giving an example of the person, place, or thing on his card before
he can do the same for yours. If you blurt out a correct answer first, you win
his card and the drawing continues.

Sounds
simple, right? Wrong! Wild cards allow unlike symbols to match, increasing the
number of things to which you must pay attention. Cascading face-offs can occur
when you hand over a lost card, thereby revealing a new top card on your play
pile.
4. HIVE
Another game we haven’t played but have ravs about it! Review from http://gen42.com/hive

Hive is a board game with a difference. There is no board! The pieces are added to the playing area thus creating the board. As more and more pieces are added the game becomes a fight to see who can be the first to capture the opposing Queen Bee.

The soldier ants battle to keep control of the outside of the hive, whilst the Beetles climb up to dominate the top. Spiders moving into holding positions as the Grass Hoppers jump in for the kill. Keeping one eye on the hive and the other on your opponents reserves, the tension builds as one wrong move will see your Queen Bee quickly engulfed; …. game over!

5. SEQUENCE

Such a simple but fun game! It can be played with just 2 people or a group of people. The nice thing about sequence is you can play and conversation can keep going. It’s even fun for Kids. Kira loves the kids version and we can still play easily with her and have a great time!

6. PIE FACE:
A popular
game among youngsters and well adults too as a matter of fact is Pie Face. It
was created to be a kid game but more often than not while we are at a friend’s
house we find that the adults join in and have just as much (or more) fun
playing it! It is a simple, yet suspenseful game! Somebody is bound to get
slapped. You put whipped cream (not included) on the ‘hand’, roll the dice and
start turning the handles.  It could go off at any time and you hope
you’re not the one it decides to land on. You score a point for every time you
turn the handles without getting pie faced. Then the first one to 25 wins!

7. BEAN BOOZLED
This is one
that I have YET to play, but hear so much about that I felt like it needed to
be on this list! Who doesn’t like jelly beans? Well if you are daring enough to
try this game you might think otherwise! It’s a game about chance. You have
colored jelly beans in 10 regular {berry blue, buttered popcorn, black
liquorish}  matched up 10 wacky {barf-skunk-rotten egg-ones}, a spinner
and it’s all up to chance what kind of bean you get! The yummy ones and the
wacky flavors match in color so you choose knowing that it could be one of two
flavors.  Are you up for the DARE?

8. GAME OF
THINGS
This
is a party hit! Everyone ends up laughing! Each round all players get to write
an answer to a topic card. Answers can be from very serious to pretty
outrageous! Everyone takes their turn trying to guess what other people wrote
as their answers. Some people put answers you would have never saw coming!
That’s the fun of it; you get to put the first thing that comes to mind. The
last person to get their answer guessed wins that round.

9. SNORTA
This is the only
game that it’s ok to act like a barnyard animal! Everyone gets a barn, and an
animal. Each person has a sound those co-insides with their barnyard animal.
Once you have announced your sound you put your animal away so that people
can’t easily remember what sound it is they need to make. The point of the game
is to get rid of all your cards first! Going in a circle everyone starts
flipping over their top card. If two cards match, players try and be the first
to say the other player’s animal noise. Whoever says it last has to take the
opponents cards. It gets pretty wild and funny as those that can’t remember
their opponent’s sounds start rambling off all the barnyard noises!

10. HEDBANZ

This one is fun
because you can only ask ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions to figure out if the cartoon
on your head is an animal, food, or man-made object… ok ok let’s back up! You
start off by putting on a hedbanz, you take a card without looking and face it
out so all the others can see what it says. Be the first person to guess what
you are and you win! Remember, you can only ask ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions on your
turn to help you decipher what your card says! This game is fun for anyone 6+
and us adults, once again LOVE it!
