Favorite Childhood Memories Post #2 | Stacey Hansen Photography

It’s December. One of my favorite months of the year. Today’s blog is sharing one of my favorite childhood memories with you. Our Riggs Santa Party. You’re asking what that is right? It is a family party that I look forward to every year and even more so now that I have kids and nieces/nephews. I get to see their excitement for Christmas and it makes my heart so so happy! Favorite Childhood Memories Post #2 | Stacey Hansen Photography

The Riggs Santa party has been a family party on my mom’s side of the family for as long as I can remember and even before that. I’m told about stories of when I was younger and I can’t remember back that far. Like one time, the kids tried to get into Santa’s toy sack. We laugh about it now but I wouldn’t put it past any of us to try.

My family meets for dinner and then Santa shows up an hour or so later. One year in particular I remember like it was yesterday. All I wanted for Christmas that year was a bell off of Santa’s sleigh. I had asked for that all season and I was sure I was going to get it. When Santa arrived I was giddy with excitement! I couldn’t wait. Santa sat down in his chair at my grandma’s house and he called us up one by one to ask us the infamous question. “Have you been naughty or nice?” I usually always said I was nice, until I got older that is. That year I was nice and Santa agreed. He then asked what I wanted for Christmas and I replied a bell from his sleigh. He said something to the effect of he’ll see what he can do and then gave me a wrapped gift.

I headed back to my seat and opened my gift as the next person was called up to his seat. But wow, I was surprised that I got a toy that year. I can’t recall what it was but it was a toy. A little disapointed but excited to see if he fullfilled my request for Christmas morning I watched as the rest of the family sat on his lap.

As he concluded he gave out candy canes to everyone. He then said wait a minute, I think I have one more gift and he jiggled his bag. It rang back just a little big. OHHHHH. I was so excited. He said, someone wanted a bell from Santa’s sleigh. I jumped up and ran up there. It was the most beautiful bell ever. Authentic too. It looked so real and like it had been worn just right and would fit with everything Santa owned. I instantly loved it and I loved Santa.

I believe in Santa through and through. It’s through the spirit of Christmas that we can all strive to be better, live better, treat others better and be a little giddy about gifts we want and gifts we give.

This Christmas Season, I challenge you to live through the Spirit of Christmas and Santa. Give someone a gift that means the world to them. Or give a gift to someone that otherwise might not get much. Relive your best Christmas Memories by giving to others.

Merry Christmas.
