Birthstory Karson Logan Utah Photographer

April 1, 2021. You’d probably think this is an April Fools joke because that’s what lot of people thought at first. However, April 1st is our little guys arrival date and it’s been a joy to have him in our lives! Here’s an overview of his birth story. Birthstory Karson Logan Utah Photographer

I had been on a limited bed rest schedule for about a month and a half.  Working part time from home and in the office, I had a great opportunity to be able to do so and it sure helped my pregnancy. I kept thinking that baby boy would arrive in March at some point. Early March flew by with after my Grandma Riggs passed away (future blog about her funeral coming). Then mid march, and the end of march approached and I was still pregnant. Not feeling great by any means but my blood pressure was normal which is what we had issues with on my first pregnancy.

April 1st finally came. My Dr and I had talked about possibly delivering early and knew this would be the day if that was going to happen with her and without major issues. I went to my Dr appt that morning and I was still normal with Blood pressure. However, I was continuing to itch and was really sick and nauseous the last 3-4 days. Dr decided it was better to deliver today than wait and potentially deal with cholestasis. So she called the L&D department to see if they would approve our delivery and sent me home to wait for their call back. I was on the phone with Andy telling him I wasn’t sure today was going to be the day and was slightly devastated because I was so over being pregnant. I got a call and told him I’d call him back.

The nurse said L&D and the anesthesiologist had approved our delivery and they had us scheduled for 12:30. We need to arrive around 11 to get checked in and ready.  I called Andy back and then waited for him to come pick me up at my parents’ house.

We got to the hospital, checked in, got hooked up, Covid Test done, IV in, etc. C-Section was ready to go so we headed to the OR. We had invited my sister, Shayna, to join the delivery if she was able to since she works as a Scrub tech there at the hospital. She was able to make it and we saw her as we entered the OR. The Spinal Block went well and I laid down. Off they went on the delivery. I did not need oxygen this time so that was helpful. Andy watched most of the delivery. Out came Karson, at 6 lbs 14 oz! He was such a good baby at delivery and didn’t give them any issues.

They took him over to be cleaned and had to suck out his lungs quite a bit. He had got a lot of fluid in there during delivery. Once he was cleaned and his lungs sounded better, they handed him to Andy. It was so neat to see this delivery and watch Andy become a dad. Born at 1:18 pm.

Andy only had Karson for a few minutes when they had finished up the C-Section, so he handed baby over to me and we rode to the recovery room. We had decided not to breast feed so when we got back to the room Andy started to feed little guy with a bottle. We hung out in recovery for a few hours and baby boy did amazing!

Because of Covid, we were unable to have a photographer with us like we did with Kip so all the photos we have are from our cell phones. We also were only permitted 2 people to visit the hospital. One of them was Andy and then we had my mom come up.

Mother baby was much different with Karson than with Kip. With no visitors and no NICU it was quite and easy to just relax and enjoy the new little one. I sure missed my Kip but I got to video call and check in on him with grandma and dad.

I’m so grateful we were able to get pregnant again. After our long road of infertility before Kip, this time was a breeze. We got pregnant on our first IUI with medication. We had been trying on our own for over a year and then decided to get medical assistance. I’m so glad that first IUI worked and we were blessed with beautiful and healthy baby boy.
