When I schedule newborn sessions I am always excited for the
week or so around their mom’s due date in hopes that I get the text or phone
call saying they are going to the hospital. I love the anticipation and the excitement
that surround a new baby and newborn sessions.  The moms are always so happy and glowing
because of the pregnancy. I get excited and always start looking for props or
ideas that can fit each individual family. I try to make each session fit their
lifestyle and personality in some way.

When BrieAnna asked me to do her newborns I was overly
thrilled. I’ve known BrieAnna for a few years as she worked for me at Hycomp. I
believe we became pretty good friends over the years and couldn’t wait for her
baby to arrive. I knew she and Kolten were into hunting and the outdoors so I had
bought a few wraps that would go with their colors. She has mentioned she was
going to bring a few props with them as well. I was seriously prepared when her
due date started to draw near. I had kept my calendar pretty open as I had a
few newborns due around this time. When I saw on facebook that she was in labor
it was no different than any other newborn, the excitement came. I’m not sure
if it was later that day or the next day but that’s when heartbreak came next.
Porter had some complications during his delivery and was moved into the NICU. I
can’t speak personally but I don’t think that’s a situation any new parent
wants to go through. BrieAnna and Kolten were amazing during that situation and
I look up to them more than words can say.
When BrieAnna and Kolten came to their appointment, 17 days
after he was born, they gave me a little more info on Porter’s situation. I was
heartbroken to hear mom and dad didn’t get to hold him for 3 days. They came
home after 8 days. BrieAnna was also admitted into the hospital after she was
discharged from Labor and Delivery because of Kidney infections. I think it’s
safe to say this little family of three had been through A LOT since Porter’s
arrival on May 1st. During our session the little guy kept pulling a
cute smile and he actually slept really good. He basically was a prime newborn model
and I was so happy to get to take some pictures for his parents. Kolten is an
avid hunter and had brought an antler and a hat. Porter just kept sleeping
through our prop change out. He was super good! His little hair has more of a
red tint to it under my lights but it is pretty much adorable.
Congrats Kay Family.
He is seriously so precious.
